Here comes the new Water Boarding event with a mix of sports, shows, entertainment and action on the beaches of Oristano.

The Local Tourist System Eleonora D’Arborea and the Province of Oristano are proud to present the first edition of the Oristano Open Water Challenge, a feast dedicated to the sea and the wind which will mark the beginning of the 2010 summer season. 
This is a multi sports event for enthusiasts of windsurf, kite surf and water boarding in general and to which people from the sector, athletes, amateurs, young people, the public, tourists, sports celebrities and future surfers are going to participate. This event intends to join the image of these water sports with the land of Sardinia and more precisely with the coasts of the province of Oristano where the event will take place.
In this first edition the event presents itself with a programme full of races and entertainment. First of all the “Sinis Endurance”, a long distance competition for amateurs and professionals in the disciplines of windsurf and kite surf at national and international level. In this competition the athletes will challenge each other in a thrilling race in stages along natural itineraries in the spectacular waters of the Sinis Peninsula.
Even more interesting for fans of SUP surf is the distance challenge of “Paddle Marathon”, not to mention the many tournaments around the event, such as beach tennis, beach rugby, Australian triathlon and wakeboard. For those who would like to get into these sports there will be free lessons and tests of kite surfing and windsurfing equipment. Many companies from the sector have already announced their attendance at the event, and they will use the occasion to present their latest gear which is sure to interest the numerous spectators.
Apart from the athletic programme, the three days of the event will be accompanied by musical entertainment and shows that last all through the competition phase. At the Surf Village on the beach of Torregrande there will be exhibition stands with products related to the sector. In occasion of the event a whole village of gazebos, inflatable structures, stages as well as sports structures and games will be set up. All this to animate the Surf Village of Torregrande, and more generally, all the beaches where you can follow the athletic programme.
From a purely tourist point of view the Oristano Open Water Challenge takes form as one of the first effective moments of the promotion project for active holidays by the sea. So far more than 30 provincial tourist operators have shown their intention to participate. For this three-day event the travel agencies have created special holiday packages with particularly good conditions and educational tours for foreign tour operators specialized in the sector of active holidays.
